Reverse your hangers

Put your clothes in your closet with the hangers reversed once a year. Once you pull clothes out, reverse the hanger. Every year give away any clothes that you never took out (hangers face original direction).

Get out of the house in time

Make your playlists exactly as long as you have to get ready in the morning. Go from chill songs to more energetic. You will be able to tell how you are doing on time by the currently playing song.

Remember to bring important things

When you need to remember to bring something with you, put your car keys on it the night before, or put the item you need to remember on your shoes.

Ice Cold Drink in 3 minutes flat

If you want to cool a warm beer or soda to ice cold in 3 minutes, put the can or cans in a pot and cover with ice. Next, add 2 cups of salt and fill with water. It will be ice cold in 3 minutes.

Unlock a chain lock from the outside

Find a rubber band. Attach the rubber band to the chain lock, then to the indoor handle. As you close the door from the outside, the rubber band will pull the chain and the lock will dislodge. Works like a charm.

The door is segmented into multiple strips and opens minimally according to the shape of the individual, animal or object that has to pass through.

Throughout life we acquire possessions: from books and small objects purchased throughout travels to meaningful gifts. They end up stored in cardboard boxes, unappreciated or displayed somewhere within our homes. Rotterdam-based designer Reinier de Jong introduces a storage solution to accommodate our ever-changing needs: REK is an expandable bookcase that grows with your collection and is always full, regardless of the quantity of books and objects it holds.

REK grows with you and your space. “The more books, the bigger the bookcase,” according to the designer. Although the basic idea has been around for centuries, the application is entirely innovative. Kitchen bowls of varying sizes fit within each other for consolidated storage, and Russian nesting dolls which decrease in size, are placed one inside the other. These objects have the ability to be space-saving in their consolidated form, but individual components can be expanded out from each other to reveal themselves. The same ideas apply to REK whose five components are like puzzle pieces. “When in use, the zigzag shaped parts slide in or out to accommodate books in the resulting voids.” The relationship between solid and void changes as it is reconfigured, resulting in more or less storage and taking up more or less space. REK is anything from a solid sculptural object to a series of large open bookshelves.

“Also, the books can be arranged according to their size. The narrow spaces are excellent for magazines.” As noted by the designer on his website. REK contracts to save space or expands to reveal additional shelving. It operates like an accordion, similarly to Molo’s Softwall. The same functionality and flexibility applies to both Molo’s soft wall and de Jong’s REK bookshelf. Although different materials and operations are in effect, the idea is the same. The exterior of REK is finished with a white high gloss laminate and the inside in a warm-grey satin laminate. Even without the need for flexible storage, REK is a beautiful piece easily likened to a piece of art.

The most fantastic thing is that in each roll, the shape of a tree is created with out adding or removing anything, just by cutting out and folding the paper from the roll itself. Except toilet roll, the Japanese artist has also used shopping bags and old pizza boxes in his collection of work that uses recycled materials to defy the defined roles of these objects.

Junior Fritz Jacquet is an artist that loves working with paper and has created a series of small masks by bending and folding empty toilet paper rolls. The masks are sculpted by hand, then coated with shellac and different pigments. Each mask expresses a kind of emotion of people. Isn’t it amazing to see all kinds of expressions on the toilet paper roll that should have been thrown into bin?

She created a winter scene with a child building a snowman, a scene with a woman taking clothes down from a washing line, a school classroom scene, a busy market scene and a model of a grandmother sitting in a living room with a cat through carving tiny scenes out of the inside of each brown paper roll while leaving the outside intact.

Using mirrors as an integral part of an interior design provides far more than merely the opportunity of making a room appear much larger. By selecting a wall which enables natural light to reflect back into a room via a mirror creates a whole host of different lighting effects and illusions. Nowadays, mirrors are often a design element in itself, making a statement in the home without having to try too hard. Here are some examples:

Nendo designed the cabbage chair for XXIst Century Man exhibition curated by Issey Miyake to commemorate the first anniversary of 21_21 Design Sight in Roppongi, Tokyo.

Resins added during the original paper production process adds strength and the ability to remember forms, and the pleats themselves give the chair elasticity and a springy resilience, for an overall effect that looks almost rough, but gives the user a soft, comfortable seating experience. The chair has no internal structure.

The cabbage chair fits active, optimistic and forward-moving “21st century people”.

A mirror or looking glass is an object with at least one polished and therefore specularly reflective surface. The most familiar type of mirror is the plane mirror, which has a flat surface. Here are 6 unusual but creative mirrors.

Who Tall Are You Mirror

This tongue-in-cheek mirror lists 120 celebrities by height and guarantees to have people loitering in front of it trying to make themselves more James Dean instead of Ben Stiller. [ Who Tall Are You Mirror ]

Police Mug Shot Mirror

Rikkis, a door-to-door taxi company, used clever posters to promote their services. When viewed in the reflection of the mirror, they gave the consumer the impression that they were posing for a mug shot. [ Police Mug Shot Mirror ]

Touch Screen MP3 Mirror

Stocco Maitre mirror has a touch screen console in the lower-right corner, offering easy programming and operation of radio, date, barometer, and an MP3 player so you can sing your heart out in the shower. [ Touch Screen MP3 Mirror ]

Razor Blade Mirror

Not only is this a pretty damn cool object to put on the wall, it’s also a perfect shaving mirror (if you’re a man of course … or a woman with a beard). [ Razor Blade Mirror ]

Ruler Mirror

Silk printed mirror design allows you to measure your height. Perfect if you have kids. I remember I used to measure myself every day. [ Ruler Mirror ]

Interactive Mirror

Tired of the old classic RED fire extinguisher that always hide behind your door/warehouse/kitchen? If so, check out this Fire Design by a French company who also “bore-to-dead” by the classic fire extinguisher color and trying to market their funky yet stylish Fire Design Extinguishers to refresh its looking.

Perhaps for you who already own enough fire extinguishers at you home won’t need another one of this. But if you valued the stylish and funkiness, they perhaps will make a killing for every artist soul and tease them to buy one. Well, it’s kind of lifestyle actually. Instead of getting the oldie RED folksy fire extinguisher, personally I would really want to get one of this Fire Design to pair with my stylish home.

Although they may hold nostalgic value for some, cassette tapes are bulky, have poor sound quality, lack large format album artwork, and a stacked up collection of them just doesn’t have the je ne sais quoi as a crate full of vinyl. To keep this 80’s technology out of the landfill, ooomydesign has used old cassette tapes to create a series of gorgeous glowing lamps.

Ooomydesign’s cassette tape lamps are linked together with plastic ties and are available in various sizes of floor and table lamps. The x-ray view in the lamps made from clear tapes is a really nice bonus, plus the disco ball-style sprinkling of light thrown on the wall from the wheel holes is really pretty cool. They can be purchased from the ooomydesign online shop, but designer Vanesa Moreno is also open to barter a lamp for those that want to send a collection of tapes. For your altruistic side, donations of tapes are also an option and would go towards making her vision of collection of cassette chairs, tables, and other furniture into a retro reality.

Designer Alisson Wilson Ströher’s IMO coffee maker is intended to be a compact, practical solution to household coffee making – but it looks like he picked up aesthetic cues from the HAL exoskeleton.

Besides looking cool, the swing arm actually serves a practical purpose. By adjusting its height you can easily fill cups of varying sizes. It also has the ability to brew three packets of coffee without changing the water in the reservoir. The IMO is only a concept at this point, but if it were to go into production, Ströher believes it would retail for about $130.

I always was a big fan of wood furniture and I just came across this great desk. Fully handcrafted, with 3 drawers it will surely add a more natural feel to your office.

What’s great about it is that is saves space even if the desk is not that small. It saves space because you can place it in that corner of your office where the sun isn’t to strong and you won’t have any problems with the sun shining on your screen.

The desk is made from crotch sawn black walnut and has 28 inches height, 62 inches width and 46 inches depth.
You can get it for only $3,299.99 from Scenic Furniture.

There comes a time when your home becomes dull. This is because you get used to your furniture and their placement.
You might try to rearrange your furniture but this won’t last too much.

You will eventually buy new furniture if you have the extra cash. And while you do that here’s a tip to make your rooms much pleasant then they are.

You can buy solar shades from The Shade Store and get a 15% discount (as the title says) and free shipping if you use the code “IZEA01″.

These shades are all environmentally friendly ( the materials are 100% recyclable and GreenGuard Certified ) and they conserve energy ( because they reject heat in the summer and keep heat in during the winter, your energy bills will decrease ). Not to mention that the shades also block harmful ultraviolet rays ( the sun’s ultra violet rays harm the human skin and can cause permanent damage if precautions are not adhered. Skin diseases and melanoma are the major illnesses brought about by exposure to sun’s ultra violet rays. ) and reduce glare while letting you maintain your view.

I assure you that these custom shades will augment the beauty and elegance of your home because of their attractive colors and designs and you will feel much better in your own home.

Concrete art and design or concretism is an abstractionist movement that evolved in the 1930s out of the work of De Stijl, the futurists and Kandinsky around the Swiss painter Max Bill. The term “concrete art” was first introduced by Theo van Doesburg in his “Manifesto of Concrete Art” (1930). In his understanding, this form of abstractionism must be free of any symbolical association with reality, arguing that lines and colors are concrete by themselves.

Here are some very nice examples of concrete art:

Made of 304 stainless steel, Pyrex and food-grade silicone, the Sorapot Glass Teapot holds just enough to make two cups of tea (or tea for two, if you prefer). The Sorapot’s stainless steel backbone is made the same way that jet turbine blades and space shuttle components are created. The Sorapot Glass Teapot provides the tea lover with a way to watch the tea brewing process with all the vicarious fascination of viewing a sunset.

The way it works is simple and innovative. You simply place the tealeaves in the glass pot and pour hot water in through the spout of the Sorapot Glass Teapot. Beautiful but not the most practical, as you must heat up the water in something else, but alas, what price the beauty of the tea making process and most sunsets?
