DVD Home Cinemas

Interesting, Tech February 6th, 2010

Is your room crowded with speakers, subwoofers, computers, laptops and a TV as mine is ? Well I was thinking about making some free space by buying a dvd home cinema and connecting every “gadget” I have through it. I’d put a speaker in every corner of the room and one beneath the TV to have a nice surround sound. Imagine playing Mortal Kombat on PlayStation with surround … it would be awesome.

Do you have a dvd home cinema installed ? Which one and would you recommend it to me ?

The Most Beautiful Blacksmith In The World

Art, Cool Photos, Interesting, Women February 6th, 2010

A blacksmith is a person who creates objects from iron or steel by forging the metal by using tools to hammer, bend, and cut. Blacksmiths produce things like wrought iron gates, grills, railings, light fixtures, furniture, sculpture, tools, agricultural implements, decorative and religious items, cooking utensils, horseshoes and weapons.

Sounds like a tough job, huh ? Well … women can do it too. Here’s the most beautiful smith on this planet – Cal Lane – and some of her work :

Expandable Bookcase Saves Space and Ever-Changing

Home Style, Interesting February 4th, 2010

Rek's Expandable Bookcase

Throughout life we acquire possessions: from books and small objects purchased throughout travels to meaningful gifts. They end up stored in cardboard boxes, unappreciated or displayed somewhere within our homes. Rotterdam-based designer Reinier de Jong introduces a storage solution to accommodate our ever-changing needs: REK is an expandable bookcase that grows with your collection and is always full, regardless of the quantity of books and objects it holds.

Rek's Expandable Bookcase

REK grows with you and your space. “The more books, the bigger the bookcase,” according to the designer. Although the basic idea has been around for centuries, the application is entirely innovative. Kitchen bowls of varying sizes fit within each other for consolidated storage, and Russian nesting dolls which decrease in size, are placed one inside the other. These objects have the ability to be space-saving in their consolidated form, but individual components can be expanded out from each other to reveal themselves. The same ideas apply to REK whose five components are like puzzle pieces. “When in use, the zigzag shaped parts slide in or out to accommodate books in the resulting voids.” The relationship between solid and void changes as it is reconfigured, resulting in more or less storage and taking up more or less space. REK is anything from a solid sculptural object to a series of large open bookshelves.

Rek's Expandable Bookcase

“Also, the books can be arranged according to their size. The narrow spaces are excellent for magazines.” As noted by the designer on his website. REK contracts to save space or expands to reveal additional shelving. It operates like an accordion, similarly to Molo’s Softwall. The same functionality and flexibility applies to both Molo’s soft wall and de Jong’s REK bookshelf. Although different materials and operations are in effect, the idea is the same. The exterior of REK is finished with a white high gloss laminate and the inside in a warm-grey satin laminate. Even without the need for flexible storage, REK is a beautiful piece easily likened to a piece of art.

Cigarettes

Cigarettes

  1. Cigarettes are the single-most traded item on the planet, with approximately 1 trillion being sold from country to country each year. At a global take of more than $400 billion, it’s one of the world’s largest industries.
  2. The nicotine content in several major brands is reportedly on the rise. Harvard University and the Massachusetts Health Department revealed that between 1997 and 2005 the amount of nicotine in Camel, Newport, and Doral cigarettes may have increased by as much as 11 percent.
  3. In 1970, President Nixon signed the law that placed warning labels on cigarettes and banned television advertisements for cigarettes. Monograms-Travel Planning Made Simple

Interesting January 19th, 2010

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Monograms. All opinions are 100% mine.

How much time does it take for you to plan your vacations ? I bet it takes several days at least if not weeks. It’s not so easy booking flights, reserving a hotel room, renting a car and finding all the places to visit. And as you probably know your vacations never end up the way you planned.

This can be easily avoided with Monograms Travel [ http://www.monogramstravel.com/simple?utm_source=izea&utm_medium=ppp&utm_campaign=simple ]

09gvi12827_300x250

Monograms – the simple solution to planning and enjoying a vacation – is simply a search box away from your vacation. All you have to do is to enter the city you’d like to visit, the city you’re leaving from, number or adults, number of children and the number of hotel rooms you’d like to book and you’re ready to pack.
I just search for a vacation in Paris (2 adults) and I got me a perfect vacation: 5 days in Paris for only $598.00 and I get to see some of Paris’ famous highlights which include the Arc de Triomphe, the Opera, Champs-Élysées, the Notre Dame cathedral and of course the Eiffel Tower.

And keep in mind that winter is the best time to travel (in my opinion) because you can rejuvenate your sense of adventure with savings up to 20% less than 2009.
So … start typing and stop searching. Your vacation is waiting …

Toilet Paper Art

Art, Cool Photos, Home Style, Interesting January 19th, 2010

Yuken Teruya is a Japanese artist who cuts trees out of paper bays and cardboard toilet paper rolls. The most fantastic thing is that in each roll, the shape of a tree is created with out adding or removing anything, just by cutting out and folding the paper from the roll itself. Except toilet roll, the Japanese artist has also used shopping bags and old pizza boxes in his collection of work that uses recycled materials to defy the defined roles of these objects.

Junior Fritz Jacquet is an artist that loves working with paper and has created a series of small masks by bending and folding empty toilet paper rolls. The masks are sculpted by hand, then coated with shellac and different pigments. Each mask expresses a kind of emotion of people. Isn’t it amazing to see all kinds of expressions on the toilet paper roll that should have been thrown into bin?

Anastassia Elias, a French artist, is a master of collage. She created a winter scene with a child building a snowman, a scene with a woman taking clothes down from a washing line, a school classroom scene, a busy market scene and a model of a grandmother sitting in a living room with a cat through carving tiny scenes out of the inside of each brown paper roll while leaving the outside intact.
